Goose Hunting in Iceland
Goose hunting is a fantastic experience in Iceland. Three different species of geese can be hunted in Iceland : Greylag goose, Pinkfooted goose, and Barnacle goose. Hunting season is from August 20 until December 15. The best period is September 10 - November 20.
For best results we suggest a pair of 2 hunters or more.
Example of a goose hunting tour:
Day 1 : In the afternoon you will arrive at Keflavik International Airport where you will be met by the guide. The guide will clear your weapons through customs and then transfer you to Reykjavik and to the accommodation near the hunting grounds.
Day 2 : We wake up well before dawn for breakfast, then out to the field for the morning hunt, until 10 or 12 AM. Then we will return to the hunting lodge for meal and rest.
Day 3 : Same schedule.
Day 4 : Same schedule. At the the end of the day you will return to Reykjavik by an airplane or car, depending on where you will be hunting. Late dinner in Reykjavik.
Day 5 : Transfer to Keflavik International Airport early next morning, arriving at a European airport around noon.
The Hunt: There is no bag limit but we always stop hunting at 11:30 am.
Hunting season : From August 20th until middle of December.
The prime hunting period for waterfowls is from September 10 until Novermber 20.
The hunt : A day´s result for 2 hunters may be anywhere between 0 - 10 geese per day or more. This depends of course on the shooting ability of each hunter, but weather, temperature and other factors of nature will certainly also influence the result. When needed we use dogs, German Short Haired Pointers.
We have many excellent hunting grounds and we provide all equipment needed, such as decoys, blinds, flutes etc.What to bring : Shotguns gauge 12, double barrel or 3-shot pump or semi-automatic are the most suitable. Warm, waterproof waterfowl camo clothing., warm underwear and waders are very important. Temperatures can vary from 0° - 10° centigrade, but generally the temperature is +5 to +10 centigrade, except in the early morning, when it may be colder.
Special Service: We offer to take the hunt, fillet the birds and vacum pack the meat to take back.
